Description

Level up your mountain bike skills with "Mountain Bike Basics" Group Clinic.

Whether you're new to riding or riding for years this class will teach you: smoother shifting, better dropper post usage, the 6 bike/body separation standing positions, how to preload, riding on and over obstacles, better turning practices, better braking for higher speeds, climbing tips, how to safely bail from you bike, intro to track stands, how to ratchet and more.

Schedule

10:00 Meet at UBC (Please come to Alafia a half hour early. It can take a half hour to get through park gates, park your vehicle and get your gear and bike ready.) I will be wearing a "Ur Ride Guide" t-shirt so you can find me easily. :) We will ride together to the training area near the campground.

10:30-12:30pm You will get to practice in a field in a controlled environment with equipment and cones: smoother shifting, 6 standing positions, better braking, learn your dominant foot, better turning with leaning, how to preload, intro to track stands, riding over obstacles...and more!

12:30pm-1:15 Break Time (Go refuel for round 2 then meet back at UBC)

1:30pm-3pm Take to the trails! We will practice these riding techniques on the trails. I will explain what to expect and call out techniques such as when to stand, increase speed, when to shift, etc. We will stop and analyze trail features, you'll get explanations and demonstrations on how to conquer the feature and then you'll get to session it yourself. You'll go home with videos of yourself crushing features you had always gone around. We meet back at UBC at 3pm.

What to Bring

Bring a good safe mountain bike that's been serviced/tuned up so you won't have any bike malfunctions (UBC can check and service your bike as well as rent you a bike but please reserve ahead of time). Helmet is mandatory. Bring plenty of water (a thermos is good but a Camelbak with 2-3 liters of water is even better). Bring a lunch for your lunch break!

*Hard tail, full suspension and Ebike friendly event.

Tipping is not expected but it is appreciated. Cash, Paypal, Venmo and Zelle is accepted.

Extra Info:

I highly recommend arriving a half hour early to have time to get through the gate ($5 admission), find parking (trail head next to UBC is the closest but it's sometimes full so you may need to park at the next grass lot), then you need to get your gear on and get your bike ready (check air pressure) and pedal over to UBC bike shop. I'll be sitting outside of UBC at the picnic tables wearing my "Ur Ride Guide" Jersey so you can easily find me. Meet at UBC at Alafia River State Park Trailhead 15 mins early (it's fun to chat with the coach and other students about mountain biking so come early and get to know others who have your same passion...who knows, they may become a new riding buddy.)
